OPPOSITIONAL DEFIANT DISORDER
 (ODD)

Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) is a condition in which a child displays an ongoing pattern of an angry or irritable mood, defiant or argumentative behavior, and vindictiveness toward people in authority. The child’s behavior often disrupts the child’s normal daily activities, including activities within the family and at school.

Many children and teens with ODD also have other behavioural problems, such as attention deficit disorder, learning disabilities, mood disorders, depression and anxiety disorder. Some children with ODD go on to develop a more serious behaviour disorder called conduct disorder.

SYMPTOMS-

Actively refuses to comply with majority’s requests or consensus- supported rules, performs actions deliberately to annoy others, is angry and resentful of others, argues often, blames others for their own mistakes, frequently loses temper, is spiteful or seeks revenge and is touchy or easily annoyed.

TREATMENT-

ODD include parent management training, individual psychotherapy, family therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and social training.
